Areas I Support
Sometimes life throws us curveballs, or events happen that may shake or even shatter our world, leaving us feeling overwhelmed, unable to cope or simply trying our best to carry on.
Whether these experiences are recent or from the past, you don’t have to carry that weight alone. As a professional counsellor, I’ll walk alongside you, listening to and truly hearing your story without judgement.
Together, we can explore what’s happening for you, what it means in the context of your life and what might help you find a way forward that feels right for you.
While the areas below represent some of the common difficulties people bring to counselling, every experience is unique. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, please get in touch.
The main areas i work with include:
- Individual Counselling
- Couples & Relationships
- Work-Related Challenges
- Health Matters
- Life Transitions
- Anxiety & Depression
- Grief and Loss
**If your specific concern isn’t listed, please get in touch as this is not an exhaustive list.
Anxiety & Stress
Anxiety and stress can affect us in many different ways, from feeling constantly on edge or overwhelmed to finding it difficult to switch off, sleep or cope with everyday life.
Together, we can explore what may be underneath your anxiety or stress, understand the patterns that keep it going and work towards a greater sense of calm and confidence in managing what life brings. Sometimes anxiety can become a familiar way of responding to life, even when it no longer feels helpful. Understanding where these patterns come from can be an important part of making lasting changes.
We can explore simple tools or strategies to help you manage what you’re experiencing in the here and now. These can be useful ways of managing anxiety and stress while we explore the bigger picture.
Relationships & Couples
Relationships can become difficult for all sorts of reasons. Perhaps a life event has thrown you off kilter, or you may be struggling with communication, trust, jealousy or repeated arguments. You may feel disconnected from each other and not know how to get back on track.
I work with couples at all stages and across different relationship structures. We can look at what is happening between you, what has brought you to counselling and how each of you experiences the relationship. I work with both of you without judgement and won’t take sides.
I also work with individuals who want to explore a relationship issue, a break-up or patterns they notice and want to understand and change — whether or not their partner is able or ready to come to counselling.
Work-related Challenges
The environment in which we work can unfortunately become toxic, and sometimes we don’t even realise the impact it is having on our wellbeing or on those close to us. Coming from a corporate environment myself, I have firsthand experience of the pressures that working life can bring.
I work with a wide range of work-related concerns, including stress and anxiety, burnout, communication difficulties, bullying, heavy workloads, personal development, career transitions and redundancy — to name but a few.
Together, we can explore how your work is affecting you, the impact it may be having on other areas of your life and what might help you improve your experience of work.
Health & Illness
Health difficulties can affect far more than our physical wellbeing. They can bring anxiety, uncertainty, frustration and a sense that life as we know it has been turned upside down. Sometimes the hardest part is the waiting, not knowing what comes next, living in limbo or the existential threat you feel under but keep under wraps to protect those around you.
I work with people experiencing health worries and anxiety, medical tests or diagnosis, as well as the emotional impact of living with illness or supporting someone close. We can explore what you’re experiencing, how it is affecting your life and those close to you.
Counselling can offer time to step back and make sense of what is happening. I am not qualified to give medical advice or make medical judgements.
Grief & Loss
You may be experiencing a loss through bereavement or another significant life change. You might be feeling heavy, numb, overwhelmed, angry – or a mix of many different emotions. Whatever you are feeling, your experience is unique to you and there is no right way to grieve or timeline you need to follow.
Loss can take many forms. It might be the loss of a person, beloved pet, relationship, role, future you had imagined or a life you thought you would have. Sometimes we are grieving something that others may not fully understand or even recognise as a loss. It can take time to adjust when the life we expected no longer looks the way we imagined it would.
I’ll work alongside you as you explore your grief and whatever it brings. Reflecting on what or who has been lost and how it affects you can sometimes help you find a gentler way to live with your grief.
Life Transitions
Sometimes we get to choose the changes in our lives, while others happen to us and can lead us to want to make changes of our own. Starting or leaving a job, becoming a parent, retirement, separation, overcoming illness or health scares, changes in family life or simply reaching a point where you wonder, “What now?” or “What next?” – perhaps as you reach a new stage in life – can leave us questioning what we want and where we go from here.
Even positive changes can bring unexpected emotions. You may feel unsettled, stuck or unsure of what you want, particularly when the life you imagined feels a long way from the life you are living. Sometimes you may want to reflect on what has changed and find your way back towards the life you had imagined for yourself. Counselling can give you time to step back from the noise of everyday life, take stock and consider what you want for the next part of your life.
